HEALTHY HAIR FOR LIFE !

Healthy hair does not just happen naturally when one is an adult. Have you noticed or heard women saying “Gosh I used to have such a wonderful healthy head of shining hair and now it seems so lacklustre and dull”. I personally started to notice how my own hair had changed when looking at my daughter’s shining beautiful locks, and comparing her “Crowning Glory” to my limp, dull, dry hair full of split ends! I decided to do something about it, and learn what not to do. Simple mistakes in the way we wash or treat our hair can end up permanently damaging our hair, and absolutely ruining the look and feel of what should be one of our best features. Hair is often one of the first things people look at when they see us, and have you ever thought someone was beautiful when they had limp, lifeless, dull hair?

Healthy Hair For Life!

Healthy Hair For Life!

Hair care (or lack of it) is the main reason the quality and condition of our hair diminishes, especially as we get older. With the fast paced lifestyle we all lead these days, we tend to jump into the shower , roughly wash our hair, rub it too harshly with a towel, blow all the life out of it with a burning hot hair dryer and off we go !! So here are some tips on what NOT to do and then how to correct these easily made mistakes. Firstly, apart from how we physically handle our head of hair, many outside influences can have a profound effect on the health of our hair. Heat and direct exposure to the sun can damage the hair’s follicles and create a build up of oils causing the hair to look “greasy” – wear a hat when the temperatures begin to soar. The coldness of winter is even more damaging to your hair, causing it to look dry and brittle, so try and wrap it in a warm woollen hat to protect it from the harsh elements.

Hair brushing when wet will cause breakage, we must remember that our hair is fragile and needs looking after. Over 25 million women in the U.S.A alone are experiencing thinning hair. Don’t harshly try to tug and comb through tangled hair, especially when wet and warm, this will also lead to hair loss. A very traumatic thing for a woman to experience is hair loss, and many do not know it is preventable. Find out why this is happening to you. Are you going through hormonal changes, is stress a big factor in your life? These things plus certain medications can cause hair loss. Thyroid problems such as underactive thyroid, if left untreated, can cause dry brittle hair, and for your hair to fall out. See a doctor to find out if you have any underlying problems. Once you have eliminated any health problems, there are ways to change your hair care procedures to prevent further hair damage and restore your hair to its natural beauty.

Hair care DONTS are:

Don’t wash your hair every day; this will strip your hair of its natural oils

Don’t wear plain elastic bands which literally ‘cut’ your hair – rather use scrunchies.

Don’t rub your hair harshly with a towel after washing.

Do not use cheap hair dryers and straighteners which overheat, break the hair and create that “flyaway” messy look.

Hair Care Tips to create beautiful healthy hair:

To prevent spilt ends or to use the correct term trichoptlosis, (the bane of women’s lives!)

have your hair trimmed every six weeks. If left untrimmed, the split end will work its way right up the length of the hair.

Choose a hair shampoo and conditioner which suits your hair type, and it pays to spend a little more on a better quality product. Wash you hair every three days, and remember – be gentle! Massage your scalp gently but thoroughly, as rubbing too harshly damages the hair follicles. Use the shower head to massage your scalp and to erase all the dirt and flaky build up. Rinse thoroughly so that every trace of shampoo and conditioner are removed from your scalp or dandruff like flakes will appear when hair is dry.

Towel dry gently – remember your hair is fragile.

There are many home made natural ingredients that one can use to nourish your hair from the outside. Olive oil has been used for centuries, either as a hot oil treatment, or mixed with honey as a conditioner. Rub the olive oil all over your hair, place a shower cap, plastic bag or saran wrap over the hair & heat gently with a hair dryer for half an hour (or sit in the sun) before washing out thoroughly. Coconut oil can be used for the same purpose.

Vinegar & cider water as a final rinse makes hair incredibly shiny.

Fenugreek boiled and crushed is a homemade cure for dandruff (rub all over scalp, leave for an hour & rinse)

Healthy hair of course can only be achieved if a healthy diet is followed too. A lack of essential fatty acids and any nutritional deficiencies, a lack of vitamins and minerals can play havoc on the overall condition of one’s hair.  Check out this highly recommended diet here. Not only will your hair become the most beautiful hair you have ever had, you will be losing weight as well!  This diet is phenomenal as you don’t change WHAT you eat, you change WHEN you eat, its amazing!

Isn’t mane and tale a horse shampoo? Perm is a bad solution, did you use Alkaline or Acid perm? Also, to take care of your hair, use Pantene Repair and Protect shampoo, and conditioner, and also a tub that is a replenish conditioning treatment.
